Frequently Asked Questions
What is Acupuncture?
Very thin, disposable
needles are gently inserted into acupuncture points along energetic channels
on the body. These needles activate and balance the qi (energetic life force)
of the body. When the qi flows smoothly and freely, the body is in harmony
and "dis-ease" does not exist. Acupuncture also stimulates a healing
response in the local area and releases "feel good" chemicals such
as endorphins, which make you feel peaceful and relaxed. Acupuncture treats
the whole body, not just one symptom at a time. It stimulates the body's immune
system so the body can heal itself. The ultimate goal is for your body to
be able to balance itself and keep you happy and healthy on its own!
How many treatments will it take?
The number of treatments
needed depends on the individual person and the condition being treated. Acute
conditions will respond quicker; chronic conditions will take a longer series
of treatments. Taking Chinese medicinal herbs along with receiving acupuncture
treatments will speed up the healing process. Dietary and lifestyle changes
will also help to speed up the healing process.
What does L.Ac. stand for?
L.Ac. Stands for a Licensed Acupuncturist. Krystal Pearson's California License Number is 11331.
How long does
a typical treatment take?
Allow an hour and a half for the first session. This gives me ample time to
ask you about your health history and also gives me time to answer any questions
you may have. I will also look at your tongue and feel your pulses. The following
sessions take one hour and you are typically relaxing on the table for thirty
minutes of that hour. You will leave the office feeling very relaxed and calm.
Is it painful?
No, most of the time you feel nothing. It is actually very relaxing. Sometimes
you will feel a tingling, or a heaviness, or warming sensation and every once
in awhile you will feel a slight prick. The needles and very small and very
thin...they are nothing like the needles used to give shots.
Do you use disposable needles?
Yes, we use only disposable, sterile needles.
